Sweet Tea Mason Recipe: How to Brew, Sweeten, and Serve in a Jar

You can make this recipe as written, or you could keep the simple syrup and the tea separate and allow your guests to add as little or as much simple syrup to their iced tea as they like. Either way is tasty!

There is so much you can do with a cold glass of sweet tea! Stir in some fresh lemon juice or make an Arnie Palmer with half lemonade and half tea. Smash in some summer berries, citrus slices, or sprigs of fresh herbs. I loooooooooove mint in my tea!

While sweet tea is not the only tea that I drink, growing up in the South sweet tea is a beverage that can be found as a beverage option at most restaurants. Sitting on the front porch, sipping a tall cold glass of sweet tea is just what we do around here to relax after a long day.

Mason Jars have been my jam for a while. We switched from drinking out of normal glasses to only using wide mouth mason jars as our beverage vessel. Sweet Tea and Mason Jars are a perfect Southern pair.

If you drink any amount of sweet tea, you need this kitchen hack in your life! Come summer we go through at least a gallon a day, and this has saved my life (or at least several hours of it.) Go get your sweet tea starter on, friends!

Simple syrup is perfect for sweetening drinks. The sugar crystals are fully dissolved in water so you can add it to very cold drinks. The simple syrup used for this bourbon cocktail is flavored with ginger and lemon juice.

This is excellent! Made a large batch for a Master's party last year and am making again. The Earl Grey, bitters and ginger really add a nice depth of flavor. I did use quite a bit more bourbon than the recipe calls for, but that's personal preference.

  • 4 cups tap or room temperature water

DirectionsUse a 1-quart Mason jar or pitcher.--If using tea bags: hang tea bags inside pitcher or jar with strings hanging over the rim (for easy removal later). Remove tea bags and serve.--If using loose leaf tea: add 4 teaspoons tea leaves to a tea basket, tea ball or tea filter bag. Anyway... this is the last recipe for classic cocktails month... I'm not sure where it's going to go next month. But learn to make this and you'll have the basics for almost any Roadhouse Tea type drink. Be careful though - this is one drink that packs a punch. I like to dilute it with club soda. Basically just make the drink like the recipe below, strain into you glass, and then add club soda or ginger ale to taste.

This cocktail was originally a mixture of clear spirits shaken together to resemble iced tea so you'll find a ton of recipe versions. In its most basic form it's made up of equal amounts of the big four - gin, vodka, tequila, and rum with a little Coca Cola added for color and flavor.

Sour Mix is called for in many cocktail recipes. It's easy to make at home! Just combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Add 1 cup lemon juice and 1 cup lime juice. Keep refrigerated. The recipe below uses the simple syrup (the boiled sugar and water) with an equal amount of lemon juice in place of sour mix.

This cocktail recipe is my own twist on the classic. I use Sweet Tea vodka to give it more of a Southern tea flavor but you can use your favorite vodka, plain or flavored. If you like this recipe please give it 5 stars!

In my opinion, summer is made for enjoying refreshing drinks while hanging with your loved ones. This delightful strawberry infused sweet fruit tea is not only yummy and hydrating, it also boasts just the right amount of caffeine.

Unlike bottled sweet teas you can purchase at the store, this homemade fruit tea is sweetened with fresh berries and just a touch of cane sugar for a beverage you can feel good about serving to the family.

Making your own iced tea is also super easy, meaning a refreshing glass of goodness is never far from your reach. And since this recipe is homemade, you can adjust the caffeine content to your liking.

This classic beverage, which is a staple in the South, gets its rich brown color and bold flavor from black tea, and again, it calls for a lot of sugar. Although the amount used will vary from state to state, according to Food Network, regions of the South that are further west believe the sweeter the tea the better.

Next, add two tea bags to the water and let them steep for four minutes. According to Lower, using two bags instead of one gives the tea a more intense flavor in a short time rather than letting it steep longer, which can leave it with a bitter, over-extracted taste. After the bags are done infusing, fish them out and add your desired amount of sugar until it completely dissolves in the hot liquid. Although it might not be traditional for sweet tea recipes, you can totally use sugar substitutes like stevia to get that sweet flavor, too.

I let the liquid sit for about three to four minutes before I plopped in a handful of ice cubes along with a slice of lemon for a bit of fruity tartness. I found this drink to have a really great balance of flavors between the sugar, the richness of the black tea, and lemon to brighten things up. Overall, I enjoyed making this version of sweet tea because it came together really quickly and quenched my sugary drink craving with just one glass.

Making two mason jars of peach iced tea can be your new summertime thing, just like me! Instead of making a giant pitcher of iced tea, I just make two mason jars each morning. I'm afraid that if I made a giant pitcher, I would drink this all day instead of water, plus, I'm trying to watch my caffeine intake! So, two small jars of tea is perfect for my house. It's the afternoon treat that we need to keep going, so that we can keep up with the kids in the late afternoon.

Honestly, we're going to get our caffeine one way or another, and sometimes we make our iced mochas. As long as we have something cold and sweet with caffeine in our fridge, we're set! Our love of tea is very evident with our sweet tea fried chicken, if you must know!

I'm going to put a formal recipe card below for you, but making peach iced tea is so easy, that you'll probably only need these step by step photos! The formula is easy to remember--it's essentially half and half!

I'm not a nutritionist, so I can't say definitively. But, tea has plenty of antioxidants, and using peach juice instead of sugar to sweetened tea can be healthier. If healthy is your goal, skip the additional sugar in this recipe, and your tea will be just as sweet, I promise!
